Those of you who know my son have seen first-hand the conflict he has between his German and Latin roots! For the most part, the German has won out...(gosh darn those Bangert genes!!). He has a strict "no-touching/cuddling/confining unless I am sick, hurt, or too tired to fight you off" policy. And heaven forbid if you are a doting elderly woman in the grocery store...
"uh, thank you, I know he looks cute, but you probably shouldn't try to touch him...ha, ha...he's a little unpredictable!"
But I think a recent visit from is VERY Latin cousin has brought out a glimpse of latino flair in the little German. We didn't see it right away...he spent Hunter's entire visit trying to avoid any and all physical contact (a difficult feat if you know Hunter!!)...but Trick or Treating in the neighborhood was the spolight for his "inner-Latino" (as my mom would say) to come out!
At first he approached the task of dressing up and walking from house to house in his typical German fashion...it was a full on assault requiring unwavering focus and intense concentration! But as the evening wore on...ok, maybe ten minutes as the whole endeavor took no more than 20 minutes tops!...he began to ham it up, giving neighbors very convincing, ninja "hi-ya's" and beaming and waving his thanks as we walked away. It was only a faint glimmer, but it gives me hope that my child won't always be the snooty, aloof child who stares condecendingly at the other kids at the park as if they were Poland!
