It's 7:38 pm on Easter Sunday and the house is silent. It's hard to imagine the whirlwind that passed through this weekend while at this moment all is still. In fact, not 30 min ago I tucked 2 over-stimulated, over-exhausted kids into bed in the hopes that the torturous meltdowns would cease. But they weren't always this bad...this was just the grande finale!

It all began Thursday when my - gulp! - 5 year old awoke WAY too early and announced, "I'm FIVE!!" There were decorations on his bed, over the dining table and, thanks to the deadly combination of Taryn and confetti, all over the floor! We had donuts for breakfast, which made Thursday morning tennis lessons VERY interesting. We had Millenium Falcon quesadillas (the only way to have a quesadilla if you're going to eat one!) for lunch. We went to McDonalds with Grandpa instead of napping. And we finished the day off with pizza and cupcakes and some pretty awesome presents! (Did I mention that the tradition in our house is that the birthday boy/girl gets to pick all the meals for the day?...anything they want!!)

The Cake!! |
But that was just the first chug up the incline of the rollercoaster! Friday rolled around with yet another 5am wake-up call from The Green Lantern who wanted everyone to know that today was his birthday party! Luckily we all got to eat our usual breakfast of cheerios, yogurt and turkey bacon, otherwise we never would've made it to 3:30! There were snacks to finish making, balloons to fill, backyards to decorate (and apparently bright orange string marking where our soon-to-be backyard wall will sit does not double as decorations in the eyes of a 5 year old!). I spent 45 minutes turning our trampoline into "outer space" before the wind (and 5 min. of jumping children) tore it all down! I still couldn't tell you when the chaos of preparation turned into the chaos of 24 kids running through my house, getting stuck with cactus, and doing their very best to cause armageddon on the trampoline. In fact, I don't remember anything until Sunday morning when I got food poisoning from eating a piece of ham that I saved and ate long after it had sat out in the sun during the party.
Let them eat cake!!

Do you see the overwhelming terror on my face?!? |
I mustered up all my strength to wrestle a big, pink bow into Taryn's hair, and luckily, I started feeling better just as we were leaving for Easter lunch at the Bangerts. The problem with holidays is that they pair good food and great conversations with the horrible job of parenting your kids to practice their manners! They have to hug people they don't really know, say please and thank you when they haven't had a nap, and patiently listen to adults talk about boring things without interrupting! Ok - maybe the kids have it worse than the parents on this one!
Either way, when the stillness of 7:38pm rolled around, we were ready for it! And ready for a somewhat normal week, before birthday #3 rolls around on Friday...mine!!...bum...bum...bum!!
And I didn't even talk about this!! Another time perhaps!
