All good Christians know that there are certain Biblical truths that are held in tension with one another simply because we do not know what God knows. The sovereignty of God vs. the free will of man is one of these tenuous truths that has recently come to the forefront in my life. What miraculous, deeply spiritual event could have caused such an epiphany? None other than the poop-smeared bottom of my son's shoe pressed firmly on top of my beautiful new sheep-skin boots!
As I bent over the kitchen sink delicately scrubbing, I began to breakdown all the precursors to the traumatic event into two categories. Sure...it was my son's free will that gave him the genius idea to smash a steaming pile of dog poop with his foot. It was also my own free will to decide to catch up on thank you notes rather than closely watch the antics of my nearly "terrible two" year old. But I can't help but wonder how much of the situation was caused by the unceasing rain from the past week and the three year old dog that was born with a weird intolerance to the feeling of wet grass on his paws, leading him to poop on the porch. And how much of it has to do with the fact that I have been coveting these boots for months now and since I've gotten them I've kept my dirty, sticky boys at LEAST an arm's length away...something a righteous and holy master might not find very becoming.
But what it ultimately comes down to...was it God's sovereignty or my own free will that determined my choice of chocolate brown boots rather than white? :)

When you live in the desert, brown is beautiful and in the winter, white is ugly. Not being a cessationist, perhaps this is a prophetic utterance designed to command you back to the desert. Now, the question is whether you will exercise free will to disobey this obvious command to return to a place that rarely rains so the precious little Bing won't suffer so much, or is it in a sovereign design for you to spend more time in purgatory. These are obviously difficult theological mind twisters that you will need to work out. I hope I have helped in a small way to clarify the situation for you. Your welcome.
That whole seminary thing is really paying off!! It's so much clearer to me now! :)
For Bing to poop or NOT to poop....THAT is the question...Whether tis nobler in the swamplands to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous poop smears...Or to take poopy scoopers against a sea of boot troubles...And by moving back to the desert, rear-end them!...
