Do you want to know what I am doing right now? I'm sitting on hold for the SECOND time today with my insurance company!! Why? Because for some ridiculous reason instead of making insurance companies compete for our business, our country thinks that it is the government's job to regulate healthcare...and it's not even that bad yet!! It's only going to get worse once our genius president makes the entire thing socialized!!
And what's the cause of this crazy tirade? I had the audacity of having a child and expecting my insurance company and hospital to charge me fairly!! Apparently this was too much to ask because I was OVERCHARGED more than $250 and was still being sent bills!! Now, granted, I knew my insurance sucked to begin with ($1500 in deductibles alone!!) which is all thanks to how well the residency programs take care of their doctors-in-training (let's pay them less than a teacher and have them work twice as much...then let's give them crappy benefits and only cover them as individuals forcing them to pay extra if they want their families covered!!...then when they actually start practicing, let's tax the crap out of the money that they clearly don't deserve regardless of all the risk of medical diagnosis and treatment that they have to shoulder daily!!) I'm sorry...but if you think doctors are overpaid for what they do...go see a monkey for your next medical treatment instead!!
But that's an entirely different tirade all together!! Back to my original problem...I had no idea that being proactive and paying the hospital up front would lead to me being overcharged and them pocketing the money!! Thanks to my miserly ways, I called my insurance company to figure out why I was still being billed by the hospital and discovered the discrepancy. So note to all you new mommies and mommies-to-be....1. Wait to pay your bill till after you have the baby 2. Call your insurance company and have them break down what you REALLY owe the hospital (it's already going to be some ungodly amount anyway!) 3. Remember that it wasn't your money to begin with...it is God's money that he has generously bestowed upon you and he'll continue to meet your needs...
Unless your needs are to NOT be sitting on hold for the second time and wasting an hour of your life!!...then you're on your own!!...ok...I'm still working on # 3!!

Oh man, Lupe...we are in the same boat with crap for insurance...if people thought life as a golf pro was all fun and games, THINK AGAIN! I can't even imagine the amount of money we will be paying to our health care system a couple months from now. Thanks for the reminder about it not being our money though, so true...and don't even get me started on where things are headed with our current Pres!
