Day One

Ok...so thanks to my dear friend Sommer, I've stumbled across this awesome 3 Day Potty Training plan. I was skeptical at first, but we are half way through day one and actually peeing on the potty!! It's nap time right now so who knows what I'll find when I go in to get him, but I'll endure ANYTHING for three days if it means I'll never have to change a diaper again!

I'm not gonna lie, it was VERY rocky at first! I have an EXTREMELY sensitive son who (much like his mommy) prides himself a little too highly on doing things right the first time. He wasn't pleased to have the security of his diaper removed, but I was able to distract him with a very special treat that he rarely gets to watch...T.V.!! His first accident terrified and devastated him and he screamed like he was in torturous pain everytime I sat him on the potty. We quickly switched to the less intimidating potty-chair (which I found at IKEA for super cheap AND it has the built in pee-pee guard which is a HUGE deal for little boys!!) and played off his love of trucks and football by scouring Daddy's conveniently located Sports Illustrateds for as many as we could find. I realized that distraction was KEY!

Things really didn't turn around until he made his first pee-pee on the potty. It took 50 min. of going back and forth to the potty every 30 seconds due to his "accident paranoia", and it was only about 1 teaspoon of pee, but it was enough to merit his first taste of skittles. It was like his eyes were opened to a whole new world of sugary deliciousness (another special treat that he never gets!) and the potty was his catalyst to that magical place! After only 2 hours and 4 accidents he was peeing on the potty fully and regularly for the rest of the morning! Granted he was cracked out on skittles and running like a mad-man with his blankie tied around his neck. But as I said before...I'll endure ANYTHING for three days if it means I'll never have to change a diaper again!
